Calligraphy Workshop with Claud Non
Calligraphy is one of those skills that are not just elusive for left-handed because most practitioners and teachers are right-handed. Not to mention that the art of calligraphy is made for and by right-handed. Some left-handed calligraphers are self-taught, while some have found mentors that showed them the way. One of them is Claudette Non, and she excels with calligraphy with years of practice. Not to mention that she also does calligraphy professionally with a wide array of clients under her belt.
Bad Cafe, a coffee shop, served as our venue located in Legaspi Village in Makati. One of its owners is also left-handed, who promptly joined the workshop. Claudette Non spent the entire afternoon teaching the basics of calligraphy with the difference between lettering and typography. She also destroyed the common misconception that left-handers can’t do calligraphy by teaching the participants how to write using a brush pen and a pointed pen. With just five participants and one token right-handed, Claudette was able to divide her attention between each attendee and teach the proper stance and grip to perfect each stroke.
